We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident

That silken tofu does not work as an egg substitution in these brownies. You know what does work after you’ve decided all you want is a pan of delicious brownies? Eggs.

That writing a resume is ridiculously depressing, especially once you realize that knowing all the lyrics to Taylor Swift’s Speak Now CD isn’t a “skill set”

That the people at Coconut Bliss not only make terrific vegan ice cream, but amazing hoodies, too.

That dessert hummus will be huge in 2012. Just wait.

That Taza chocolate is seriously the best there is. And no, the people at Taza have not endorsed this blog nor have I ever had any contact with them(but if anybody knows somebody who knows somebody whose cousin’s roommate has connections, my email is Evan@thewannabechef.net).

That spending Christmas gift cards on I Love Lucy season 5 is a much wiser investment than anything else you could have bought.

do you have any tips for making homemade brownies taste amazing? for some reason, store mixes always taste better to me (and i’m definitely a clean eater, which means i don’t make brownies often if i have to buy them in mix form).

Have faith that a vegan brownie is possible! Granted, I’ve yet to make a batch of eggless brownies that really got me excited, but I shall persevere!

They were running a word scramble contest on their website where if you got it correct you were entered in the running to win prizes. That’s what I got. I’m wearing it now 🙂

Stop talking about that dessert hummus, I am stuck in a car for the next few hours and I won’t have my food processor until Tuesday! I need to try it badly 🙂

    I love Luna + Larry.

I totally believe dessert hummus will be huge.

and that SOME people may appreciate seeing TS Lyricist on a resume. Over the years, I have come to realize that READING resumes is ridiculously depressing.

I am sure my people had something to do with amazing chocolate. I mean we already own every gas station, 7-11, hotel and taxi. It only makes sense to take over the chocolate industry next 😉

Once I tried making carrot cake with tofu and it was gross – maybe I just did it wrong, but I agree with you on the egg thing.
One thing I know to be true is that I will never get sick of nut butter!

Haha, I always try to predict trends, too. It makes me really happy when I find a song or something that ends up making it bigtime…I know your dessert hummus is destined for that!

dessert hummus is so good! i had some a year ago and totally forgot about it. obviously 2011 is going to be the year it makes a comeback.
i can literally SEE the softness of that coconut bliss hoodie. ahhhh comfy 🙂

I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to try ‘dessert hummus’ sometime soon. My husband dislikes chickpeas, so I may try a different bean (speaking of which, have you made black bean brownies? I thought they were to-die-for, but my husband is spoiled on his wheat and butter and accepts nothing less 😉 Sometimes ‘needing’ alternatives makes one’s palate more forgiving. And per your brownie comment, sometimes the ‘subs’ just don’t work.

I’ve always wanted to try that Mexican chocolate, suspecting it had a ‘different’ taste: it’s just conched chocolate with added sugar, right, rather that cacao butter and powder separated and added back together with sugar…

    Fun post–thanks again.

I’ve tried black bean brownies, but wasn’t really blown away. I never got the texture right.

        January 16, 2011 | 2:45 pm

Right–that’s what my husband didn’t like too. I think that I’m way less bothered by textures because I’ve never really eaten a ‘real’ brownie, so I don’t have so much of a preconception of ‘right’ texture. That whole notion of ‘right’ is a very interesting one in the world of culinary artistry, isn’t it?

I think names are deceptive, which is why whenever I make a new recipe that’s raw or vegan and doesn’t exactly parallel to the original, I try to present it to my family in a way without creating comparisons.

Agree totally! That’s such a wise strategy. Cf.: how many people have been put off carob by being told it’s ‘like chocolate?!’

You’re just in trouble when you have friends and family who will only eat things that have ‘names’ that are recognizable to them…

Amen, brother. I jus tried Taza for the first time (and sadly, can’t get anymore, living in Australia and all). I had the yerba mate kind, and must admit it was a bit sweet for my tastes, but I loved the novelty of the texture 🙂
