Watermelon With Sea Salt, Black Peppercorn, And Basil

June 1st 029

I think I could eat watermelon alone all Summer long and never get tired of it. Well, maybe watermelon and chocolate, you know, for a well-rounded diet. This takes watermelon to the next level. It’s sweet and spicy with just a small kick of flavor from the basil. As soon as I started eating from the bowl I couldn’t put it down.

Watermelon With Sea Salt, Black Peppercorn, and Basil

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole seedless watermelon, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
  • 10 basil leaves, chopped

June 1st 007

Cut the watermelon into bite-sized chunks.

June 1st 014

Julienne the basil leaves and then chop them into smaller pieces.

June 2nd 020

In a large bowl, toss together the basil, salt, and pepper evenly throughout the watermelon. Serve immediately or refrigerate for a few days.

June 2nd 025

Addictive. Purely addictive. Perfect for Summer, too!

Add some cheese to that and you have my fav summer salad! The sweet/salty combo with watermelon is addicting. Love the crunch the sea salt gives it!

I made a watermelon salad last year that included salt, mint, feta and kalamata olives. I was hesitant to taste it, but it became a favorite! This looks wonderful as well. :)

Looks great! I’ve never really gotten on the watermelon bandwagon, but this recipe contains the boy’s very favorite things (watermelon and basil) so I’ll have to try it out for him! Love your picture of the basil, btw.

I’ve had watermelon for breakfast the last three days–so happy-making! But basil and watermelon’s a great mix, and the salt and pepper would surely make it a crowd-pleaser.

Have you tried blending up watermelon with mint? Best red mojito ever.

My friends make so much fun of me for eating salt and watermelon. Until they try it!

But, wow–salt, basil and watermelon? Need to try that out soon!

Mmmm so glad it’s watermelon season! I just chopped up my first one of the year two days ago. I’ll be sure to try it with the extra flavoring. I think that would be a perfect dish to bring to a cookout
