  • 1 6oz can of tomato paste
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup worcestershire sauce

Soak the beans overnight and drain them from the water. Add them to a large pot with a quartered onion and the bayleaves and bring to a boil. Let the beans simmer for 45 minutes and skim off the foam as it forms. After 45 minutes, drain the beans and remove the bayleaves and onion(optional). Move them to a crockpot. Add to the crockpot the rest of the ingredients and cook at low heat for 4 hours, or longer if you prefer softer beans. Stir frequently and add water as necessary.

How would I cook this if I don’t have a crockpot? Just simmer on the stove for an hour or two?

I think either low heat on the stove or putting them in a oven-safe dishware and baking at 250 for 3 hours would work, too.
