A Rice Cooker Love Story(Giveaway)

Once upon a time(a little under 2 months ago), I moved into the place where I now live. I didn’t know what would be there waiting for me, and after finding my bearings I was left with a stove, an oven, and a frying pan. For a wannabe chef, this simply wasn’t enough; something was missing. At the same time, I remembered having a CSN stores gift certificate I won to spend on anything from wardrobes, to yoga mats, to—you guessed it—rice cookers.

Oct 25th 019

After a conversation with some good friends, I decided that this was the missing piece of my puzzle. I looked at design after design and knew I was going to need something powerful(read: expensive). Luckily, after sales and my coupon I got this model rice cooker at over 50% off.

Oct 25th 005

After making this big purchase, my biggest worry was how would I like it? Would I even use the darn thing? In short, it was everything I could have asked for. I never thought I needed a rice cooker; I don’t even eat rice all that often. But since the purchase I’ve used this almost every day cooking quinoa and adding in leftover protein and produce. It makes a mean savory pumpkin quinoa in 20 minutes flat and has to me to class on time. And I can tell this machine will last through the years.

This is a hard question because there are so many things we need for our kitchen – big and small. But, I think I’d go for a slow cooker or a roasting pan.

Rice cookers are amazing to have in the kitchen. My friend has been using ours to try out rice cooker cakes. Unfortunately, my boyfriend has had this rice cooker since he was a freshman in college – about 8 years, and its age is beginning to show. It worked once in “cooking the cakes”! I’d definitely go for an upgrade in the rice cooker department.

I am in the market for a rice cooker because it can cook up any grains and my life is always on the go… it’s good for a quick meal prepared in so little time, I would love to win this giveaway!!!

And oh, btw I made your chocolate fudge the other day and oh my is all I have to say, even my fiance was in love with it… I enjoy cooking more than baking… perhaps I’m getting better at it! Thanks for the recipe!

I could do with kitchen knives… I’m a college soph who moved into an apartment just this year, and somehow among my 2 roommates and I, we only ended up with 1 knife and it’s the kind that can handle carrots at best. How I have been surviving thus far with that piece of drek? No clue. Bottom line is, we’re all too cheap/lazy (well, really we don’t have time) to go get knives… 🙁

I’ve never used a rice cooker – the pumpkin quinoa looks delicious! I cook from scratch daily for my family and I’d love a new, quality chef’s knife. My 8″ broke so I’m using a so-so 6″ but the bigger was so much better for cutting the big stuff like a 3 pound butternut or a massive hubbard 🙂
I’ve also always wanted a mandoline…I put it on my wish list every Christmas but always cross it off as too extravagant!

I would put the money toward getting a nice set of knives as a Christmas gift for my mom. She’s a great cook, but it’s literally been 30 years since anyone’s replaced a knife in our house. Since I was old enough to give my parents gifts I’ve slowly been stocking the kitchen with spatulas, spoons, scale, etc.

I cook almost every day, but I do not own a single baking tray. I found myself roasting eggplant slices in my muffin tin the other day.
